This Homemade Cajun Seasoning Blend is perfect for those who want to add some heat and flavor to their dishes without buying a pre-made seasoning mix from the store.

Plus, making it at home allows you to customize the blend to your taste preferences!

The best part about making your seasoning blend is knowing what's going into it. No more worrying about added preservatives or artificial flavors.

Cajun seasoning is a staple in Southern cuisine, known for its bold and spicy flavor. With this homemade cajun seasoning blend recipe, you'll have a versatile seasoning that can be used on meats, vegetables, and even popcorn! Trust me, once you try this blend, you'll want to add it to everything.

    What is Cajun seasoning?

Cajun seasoning is a beautiful spice blend with a bold, spicy flavor with earthy sweet undertones. It comes from Louisiana, the birthplace of Cajun cuisine. Cajun is a fusion of Native American, West African, Caribbean, and French cultures.

What's the Difference Between Cajun and Creole?

Creole also originated in Louisiana but is a mix of African, Italian, French, Portuguese, and Spanish styles. This means Creole seasoning has more dried herbs than Cajun seasoning. They are, however, very similar and can often be used interchangeably. See my Creole Seasoning Blend recipe.

Where can I use Cajun seasoning?

You can use Cajun seasoning in so many dishes. Cajun chicken, cajun shrimp, cajun potatoes, cajun chicken pasta, and cajun chicken quesadillas are all recipes on Sprinkles and Sprouts.

As well as those, try using your seasoning blend:

    • Sprinkle it over hot popcorn.
    • Toss veggies like cauliflower in olive oil, then sprinkle with cajun seasoning before roasting in a hot oven.
    • Add it to the flour before coating your chicken for frying.
    • Mix it into your tomato or barbecue sauce as a delicious sauce to serve with fries or potato wedges.
    • Sprinkle it over your deviled eggs.
    • Mix it with your ground beef or chicken when you make hamburger patties or meatballs.

    Recipe Adaptions

    • Reduced or leave out the salt for a low sodium spice blend.
    • Add extra cayenne or red pepper flakes to make your cajun blend spicier.
    • Add some extra herbal notes with some dried basil or some dried dill. You can use these to replace the cayenne pepper if you want a mild blend.
    • For a smokier blend you can use more smoked paprika and less sweet paprika
