    Ingredient Notes

These notes are here to help make this recipe a success; they cover some but not all ingredients; for a complete ingredient list, check out the recipe card below.

Salmon: I buy skin off salmon fillets from the fishmonger/grocery store. The recipe calls for 1lb/460g of salmon. You can use 4 thin pieces or 2 fat pieces. The recipe has cooking times for both.
Mayonnaise: I like to use kewpie mayo for this recipe, but use your favorite brand. Please don't use a low-fat or fat-reduced alternative, as they don't cook well.
Wasabi: The Japanese green horseradish that comes with sushi. You can get it preprepared in tubes in most grocery stores these days.
Furikake: The star of the show. Furikake is a Japanese rice seasoning that consists of a mixture of dried fish, sesame seeds, chopped seaweed, sugar, and salt. It is delicious!

    How do you say Furikake?

    It is pronounced: Fur-ri-kar-kay.

    Recipe Adaptions

These are all just suggestions and things that have worked in our test kitchen, but it is your dinner, so adapt it to suit your family. That is the beauty of cooking; we can all create our own delicious meals.

    • You can replace the salmon with trout, rock cod, rankin cod, mahi mahi, halibut, Arctic char, hapuka/groper, or sea bass.
    • For a Gluten-free version, swap the soy sauce for tamari.
    • You can replace the wasabi with Sriracha or Gochujang.
    • The topping also works surprisingly well with a thin chicken fillet.

    Serving Suggestions

Sides: We love this with some white rice and steamed Asian greens drizzled with sesame oil.
Wine: The dish is perfect for serving with Californian or Australian sparkling wine. It can also balance a dry Riesling or a more fruity Albariño. For red lovers, a Pinot Noir or Beaujolais would be perfect.

The best salmon I have ever had, I had never thought of using Furikake seasoning to prepare it, this seasoning is perfect for salmon. I prepared it in air fryer, perfect!

Hi Claire, is there any particular brand of Furikake seasoning you’d recommend for the U.K. market? I’ve been doing some searching online but there is an amazing amount of difference between the ingredients in different brands. Thanks.

        Hi Mary,

The brand I use here is Ajishima Foods.

I had a quick look on UK Amazon and they have it on there.

I made your Furikake salmon in my Outdoor Pizza Oven because our electricity went out from a storm. This salmon recipe is super tasty and was very easy to make. Thanks for a great recipe!

You clearly added fresh parsley to the final product picture, so why not add that to the ingredients in a show of honesty?

        Hi Jack,
There is no parsley in the recipe or in the photos.
The green is from the seaweed in the furikake.
Hope that clears it up for you

I usually just sprinkle furikake over my ramen bowls, but this took our dinner to a whole new level last night. My hubs is obsessed with salmon and he said this was the best flavor he'd ever had!
