This Non-alcoholic Eye of Newt Punch is perfect for a kids Halloween party. It mixes apple juice and mango juice with the tropical tastes of passionfruit and lychee. Easy to make for a crowd and just creepy enough to please the kids. Plus being  nonalcoholic you can serve it to your designated drivers or those adult guest who don't drink alcohol.

Half a jug of yellow punch with passionfruit and lychees floating in it

    Why Eye of Newt Punch?

It is a bit of a kooky name isn't it.

But every time halloween comes around I think of Macbeth and the three witches. And you can't think of the three witches without the famous quote:

"Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
    Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting,
    Lizard's leg, and howlet's wing,--
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble."

    Macbeth (IV, i, 14-15)

    So why not eye of newt? Especially as I have already posted a tongue recipe {not tongue of dogs though,......these were snake tongue....well sort of 😉 }

Plus passionfruit just has that 'pond dipping' look about it.

Can I add alcohol to this punch?

    You sure can!

The tropical flavours of passionfruit, lychee and mango would all work fabulously with a white rum.

Or go with vodka for a neutral taste.

To turn the punch a gruesome colour you could use a dark red liquor (like a raspberry liquor) and pour it slowly over a spoon into the punch. This would keep the layers seperate and give a great affect.

Or adds apple schnapps and a splash of triple sec.

    Enjoy x

    Ingredients

    • 2 cups apple cider - see note 1
    • 2 cups mango nectar/juice
    • ½ cup passionfruit pulp/juice - see note 2
    • 1 cup drained tinned lychees
    • 2 cups lemonade

    Instructions

    • Combine the apple and mango juice together in a large jug.
    • Add in the passion fruit and tinned lychees.
    • Stir well, then carefully pour in the lemonade.
    • To Make ahead
    • Complete steps 1&2 and refrigerate until needed.
    • Add the lemonade just before you serve.

    Notes

    1. For non-US readers apple cider is similar to cloudy apple juice. It is not the same as the alcoholic cider sold in UK and AU.
You can substitute in pure apple juice.
    2. Either juice from a can/carton or you can scoop the seeds and juice from fresh passionfruit.
