Yes you read this correctly a spiced capsicum martini! If you are a fan of the bloody mary and a salty margarita then this is the cocktail for you!
The capsicum is muddled with lime, tomatoes and chilli to give you a savoury 'salad' juice. A splash of tabasco and some sugar syrup balance everything out into a spicy sweet peppery martini. Oh and some vodka! I had a sample bottle of some smoked vodka...wozza that was amazing! If you can get smoked vodka (Aussies peeps Dan Murphy sell it - no affiliates or anything just where I have found it!) then give it a go in these. But to honest most of the time my good old bottle of stolli works perfectly!
These capsicum martinis are perfect for a cocktail party! A few nibbles and some spicy martinis, come on! That is the makings of a great party! You know I love my sweet martinis! But I also love myself a good savoury cocktail. Start the evening with a savoury cocktail and something cheesy and I am a happy girl.
(The cheesy can be food related like my Rosemary and Pineapple Mozzarella Bites or music related. Sing it loud - Marconi plays the mamba, listen to the radio, don't you remember, we built this city, we built this city on rock an' roll - because nothing says cheese like a bit of Starship! Well maybe a bit of Wham! Or Tiffany! Man I love cheesy music!)
So after that crazy paragraph shall I share something else a little crazy??? These are perfect for brunch!!!! Yup get the girls together, get the brunch vibe going and crack on with a capsicum martini. I am loving it!!! Oooh and you know what this would go perfectly with. Eggs!!!! I wouldn't go with a sweet brunch here I would go along the lines of Egg and smashed avocado or cured salmon, avocado and poached eggs. Or baked eggs!!! I love baked eggs! Must share my recipe for baked eggs with salmon fingers. It is so good and easy to cook for a crowd! But yes, get a brunch party going on!!!!

Spiced Capsicum Martini
Ingredients
- freshly ground black pepper
- coarse salt
- 2 limes
- 1 red capsicum
- 2 cherry tomatoes
- 1 cm sized chunk of green jalapeño chilli (more or less depending on your spice tolerance)
- ½ garlic clove
- 80 ml /1/3 cup vodka (I love to use smoked vodka)
- 1 teaspoon simple sugar syrup (more if you like the real sweet and salt hit. Or omit completely)
- 1 dash tabasco
- additional salt and pepper to taste.
Instructions
- Grind the pepper into a small dish (one that will fit the rim of your martini glass) and add in an equal amount of salt.
- Cut one of the limes into quarters and run the lime around the rim of 2 martini glasses.
- Dip the edges in the salt and pepper mix and set aside.
- Chop the capsicum into small chunks and add it to a cocktail shaker with the cherry tomatoes, chilli pepper, juice of the remaining lime.
- Muddle it with a muddler (or the end of a rolling pin) until the capsicums are soft and mushed.
- Add in the half garlic clove.
- Pour in the the vodka, sugar syrup, tabasco and a pinch of salt and pepper.
- Add plenty of ice and shake well. By well I mean shake like a crazy drunk version of Tom Cruise in cocktail. You want to shake this for at least a minute to really break down the ice and get every last bit of flavour out of the veg.
- Strain the martini into your prepared glasses.
- Then put on some Starship and get your cheese going (See above 😉 )

Hi Claire! Great brunch drink!! I totally agree that this pairs with savory dishes - did you see Nagi's recent post with the salmon appetizers? I think that they would fit in nicely with your theme! How about an all appetizer brunch? 🙂 Good food, good friends and good drinks, it doesn't get any better!

I did see it! I loved it, so much easier than the traditional rolled up salmon rolls!
I am loving the idea of an all appetiser brunch!!! A couple of friends and I are having an all day appetiser session on Melbourne Cup Day (the race that stops the nation!)
