Homemade Fajita Seasoning is a great way to add flavor to your fajitas! It is bursting with flavor, has none of the fillers you might find in storebought packets, and you are in control of the salt and sugar!

You can add this seasoning to shrimp, chicken, pork, or beef fajitas. It is the perfect blend of Mexican flavors. And so simple to make at home.

Skip the storebought packets and make your own homemade Fajita Seasoning in minutes for a fraction of the price.

How to make Fajita seasoning at home

You need a few herbs and spices and a small, airtight jar or container.

Shake everything until well mixed and keep it in your pantry or food cupboard.

    You'll need:

    • Smoked Paprika
    • Paprika
    • Ground Cumin
    • Oregano
    • Onion Powder
    • Garlic Powder
    • Ground Coriander
    • Salt
    • Sugar
    • Citric Acid (optional - more on that later)

What is the difference between Fajita Seasoning and Taco Seasoning

Fajita seasoning and taco seasoning are very similar, but not the same.

Storebourgh Fajita seasoning usually has a citrus element, whereas storebought Taco seasoning doesn't, and it has more oregano and spice to it.

That being said, you can use them pretty interchangeably within recipes. Of course, the flavor will be slightly different, but it will still taste good!

    What is citric acid?

Citric acid is a weak, colorless organic acid that occurs naturally in citrus fruits, like lemons and lime. It can add that citrus zing to dishes.

The recipe uses a small amount of citric acid to bring the citrus element to your marinade. Feel free to leave it out if you don't have any or can't find it in the shops. Most larger grocery stores carry it as it is often used in the canning of tomatoes.

How much Fajita Seasoning is in a packet?

The storebought packets of fajita seasoning contain 3 tablespoons of seasoning powder.

This recipe makes 15 tablespoons of seasoning, equivalent to 5 packets of storebought seasoning.

Why Use a Homemade Fajita Seasoning Mix?

There are many benefits to making homemade spice blends; you can control the salt and sugar, know what is in your blend, and avoid all the additives typically found in commercial brands.

    How to Store Fajita Seasoning

Keep your homemade fajita seasoning in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, such as a spice cabinet or pantry. The seasoning should last for up to a year.
