This delicious Prosciutto Wrapped Maple Salmon is oven-baked for a quick and easy weeknight dinner
The salmon fillets are glazed with sweet maple syrup and then wrapped in salty prosciutto before being seared in a pan and then finished in the oven.
Perfect for two on date night or easily double the recipe for your family or entertaining.

The sweet and salty flavors going on in this salmon recipe are sooo good!!!! It tastes like a restaurant-style dish, but as you can see from the video it really is so easy to make!
How to wrap the salmon
To wrap the salmon in the prosciutto, layer one or two slices of prosciutto on a chopping board and then place the salmon in the middle top side down. This means that when you fold up the prosciutto the folds will be underneath, making the presentation better and also making it easier to seal the salmon shut.
Depending on the size of your prosciutto you might need two slices. I have found that sometimes the slices are quite narrow. Better to overlap the prosciutto to ensure the salmon is covered well.
How to cook salmon in the oven
Once the salmon is wrapped, it is seared in a hot frying pan before being transferred to the oven. Cast iron frying pans/skillets are perfect for oven baked salmon recipes as you can sear the salmon and then place the whole skillet into the oven.
To bake the salmon it wants to be roasted for 4-5 minutes at 425ºF/220ºC, 4 minutes will give you salmon that is a touch rare in the center whilst 5 minutes will give you a flakier fish.
What to serve with Prosciutto Maple Salmon
This oven baked salmon is so quick and easy that I like to serve it with something equally quick and easy – My simple pea mash! It can be made in the time the salmon is in the oven and tastes fantastic with the salty-sweet salmon!
Alternatively, this is great with some crispy smashed potatoes and a side salad.
What wine to drink with Salmon
This is an interesting one! The sweetness suggests a Riesling or a Gewürztraminer and both taste great here, but then the salty prosciutto gives us something else to play with. Meaning we could try a fruity Pinot Noir or Pinot Gris.
But my ultimate favorite here (and one that works perfectly for date night!!) is a brut rose sparkling wine. Fruity enough to match the sweet maple, but dry to balance the rich salty meat and fish.

Prosciutto Maple Salmon Recipe
- 2 salmon fillets – see note 1
- 1 tbsp maple syrup – see note 2
- 4 slices prosciutto – see note 3
- 1 tsp olive oil
- salt and black pepper
- Pre-heat the oven to 425ºF/220ºC.
- Brush each salmon fillet with the maple syrup then season with salt and pepper. Repeat on the underside of the salmon.
- Lay two slices of prosciutto out on a board, making sure they are overlapping. Place the salmon on the prosciutto top side down and fold the prosciutto over to cover the salmon. Repeat with the second fillet.
- Place a cast iron skillet or oven proof frying pan over a medium-high heat and add the olive oil.
- Once the pan is hot, carefully place the salmon in the pan, seam side down.
- Cook the salmon for 1 minute then carefully flip and cook for another minute on the top side.
- Flip the salmon again and place it in the hot oven for 4-5 minutes (see note 4)
- It is best to use skin off fillets for this recipe as the salmon is wrapped so any skin wouldn’t have a chance to crisp up.
- Use real maple syrup not the fake flavored kind.
- You can use serrano ham instead of the prosciutto. Or thin cut bacon would also work here.
- The salmon doesn’t take long to cook, 4 minutes will give you a rare center, whilst 5 minutes will give you a flakier fish,
